Glamping

Glamorous camping (or glamping) is growing in popularity, with tipis, yurts and other tented dwellings popping up everywhere. Invite your loved ones, throw in a beautiful ceremony, and you’ve got yourself an awesome glamping wedding!

At Northside Farm, our glamping pods are nestled in amongst the orchard and come complete with all mod cons, your own fire pit, a designated parking space, and a decking area. Each one sleeps up to five people, they’re family friendly, and we welcome pets too.

Perfect for boho couples or those of you seeking something a little different, here are our top tips for planning a glamping wedding…

Venue Rules and Regs

Some venues will already have accommodation for you to use while others will want you to hire your own. There may also be restrictions on open fires, noise and numbers, so make sure you do your homework before you commit to anything.

The glamping pods at Northside Farm comfortably accommodate up to 50 people and arrangements can be made for additional guests to pitch tents or park camper vans nearby. Our beautiful fairytale cottages are now available and we also work with a lovely company called Northern Star Tepees who provide gorgeous pop-up glamping villages to sit alongside our pods.

Whatever you do, it’s important to inform your guests about your plans. Some may be physically unable to camp under the stars and others might find it tricky with very small children. It’s a good idea to offer alternative accommodation for those who wish to make other arrangements, so consider supplying them with a list of local hotels and B&Bs.

Bring Your Own?

With the venue ready and waiting for your guests, you need to let them know what they should pack. Our pods are fully equipped, so the only gear you need to bring is your bedding, cooking equipment, utensils, crockery and cutlery.

The nearby stable has laundry facilities, a washing-up area, and four family-sized bathrooms – one of which is more accessible for guests who use wheelchairs. All bathrooms are heated and include a shower, sink, and toilet along with baby changing facilities. We can also provide baby baths for children to wash in if they don’t like showers.

Weather and Warmth

Glamping weddings always need a contingency for freak weather conditions! Make sure your guests are, quite literally, covered for any eventuality. Flip flops and sunscreen, blankets and wraps, umbrellas and wellies. They make great and unusual wedding favours too!

Once your wedding ceremony is over, don’t forget to ‘be prepared’ for the evening dip in temperature. As celebrations extend into the night, light up the fire pits and toast marshmallows while toasting your fingers and toes around the campfire!

Light Your Way

Cost effective, clever uses of light will help create a little bit of heaven for your al fresco celebration. From fairy lights and festoon strings to lanterns and candles (if used sensibly and safely). Don’t forget to provide your guests with torches so that they can find the toilets in the dark.

Decoration

If you truly want to embrace the glamping experience, you could source deckchairs, wooden benches, or even vintage cinema chairs to add a glamorous, unique touch to your ceremony seating.

For the campsite, go to town with bunting or macramé, tree stumps with floral arrangements, old rugs and carpets, wooden signs for direction or old pallets with your itinerary painted on them.

For the campers, why not gift them little treats to make camping sweet? Biscuits, chocolate and marshmallows for a ‘build your own’ smores contest, or ear plugs and eye masks to aid with restful sleep.

Fun and Games

Think about how you’re going to entertain your guests. Choose traditional fun fair games like splat the rat, a coconut shy and skittles. What about a family friendly game of hide and seek? Or your very own ‘It’s a Knockout’ complete with trophies and medals?

Food for Thought

There are a multitude of delicious ways to feed your guests at a glamping wedding. You could opt for a more traditional seated meal inside or create a laidback BBQ vibe. You can read more about wedding catering at Northside Farm here.

So, now you’re armed with all the know-how, we can’t wait to see your glamping wedding ideas! If you’re interested in creating a glamorous camping experience for your guests in the heart of the Northumberland countryside, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
